I think that there have already been written and will be written hundreds and thousands of reviews about Baz Luhrmann's Elvis. I think that we will hear about this picture more than once and see some nominations and awards. You will learn about technical moments from dozens of interviews, and an amazing soundtrack will settle in your playlist.
Before watching, I felt the excitement as before a very important meeting. During the show, I cried, and my heart pounded faster from delight and incredible feeling of presence in Elvis Presley's (Austin Butler) life, at his concerts, in his dialogues with people, in his heavy, paralyzing and killing interaction with Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), his manager, from whose perspective the story is told. I felt something like electricity in the climax moments, where all the boundaries between the worlds were erased, how the screen split and the change of frames of documentary and artistic shooting were erased, how the awareness of who was performing the soundtrack was erased. The feeling of where I was and what was happening was erased: the tape introduced me into a deep hypnotic trance with its rhythm, colors and pulsing magnetism.
The most powerful episode of living for me is when at a certain moment you realize that nothing else matters: there is only you and the magic of cinema. 2 hours and 40 minutes turned out to be just numbers on the ticket. I didn't feel how much time had passed.
Luhrmann created a colossal biopic that managed to contain all the important milestones of Presley's life: from the rising of a star on Beale Street to his transformation into a universal personality. Only 42 years of life, but this man fell into eternity. Behind the brilliant chic of costumes and entourage and the richest filming, a very sad story is told, but nevertheless, a story of choice. Such a choice, when there could not be another for this particular person, who was created for the world and people. The choice is to burn in your love and become the light of a comet, dazzlingly breaking through decades and in the future - through centuries. Elvis returned to us in this film: he was full of energy, driving nerve, unique charisma and charm. He was full of love: for his music and for his fans. Nevertheless, his grandiose personality will forever remain an unfathomable mystery that we want to touch, at least as much as we can.
Thank you, Baz, for choosing to create this portal, this royal tribute. Thank you, Austin, for this titanic inspiring work that allowed me to share that part of Elvis' soul that chose you for a new life on earth, telling you how it is above the stars. Thank you for your trust in each other. Thank you for every song performed with such vocal precision and impact. The spirit of the King of Rock and Roll is eternal, as is his music.
The film became an event for me, a new milestone on my path of love for great art. Personally, I would like everyone to watch this movie.
P.S.: A very important line in the picture is the events in the US in the 50s-70s, as well as the theme of racism and segregation. Elvis obviously cannot be imagined without the strong influence of African-American performers.

Перед просмотром я чувствовала волнение как перед очень важной встречей. Во время показа я плакала, и мое сердце колотилось чаще от восторга и невероятного ощущения присутствия в жизни Элвиса (Остин Батлер), на его концертах, в его диалогах с людьми, в его тяжелом, парализующем и убивающем взаимодействии с Томом Паркером (Том Хэнкс) — его менеджером, от чьего лица рассказана история. Меня пробивало будто электричеством в кульминационные моменты, где все грани между мирами стирались, как стиралось разделение экрана и смена кадров документальной и художественной съемки, как стиралось осознание, кто исполняет саундтрек. Стиралось ощущение, где я, и что происходит — лента вводила в глубокий гипнотический транс своим ритмом, красками и пульсирующим магнетизмом.
Самые сильные для меня эпизод проживания — это когда в определённом моменте осознаёшь, что ничего больше неважно: есть ты и магия кино. 2 ч 40 мин — оказались просто цифрами на билете. Не ощутила, сколько времени прошло.
У Лурмана получился колоссальный байопик, сумевший вместить в себя все важные вехи жизни Пресли: от восхода звезды на Бил-стрит до трансформации в личность вселенского масштаба. Всего 42 года жизни, но этот человек попал в вечность. За блестящим шиком костюмов и антуража и богатейшими съёмками рассказана очень грустная история, но тем не менее — история выбора. Такого выбора, когда другого быть не могло для этого конкретного человека, созданного для мира и людей. Выбор — сгореть в своей любви и стать светом кометы, ослепительно пробивающим десятилетия и в будущем — века. Элвис вернулся к нам в этой космической ленте: он был полон сил, движущего нерва, неповторимой харизмы и обаяния. Он был полон любви: к своей музыке и к своим поклонникам. Тем не менее его грандиозная личность навсегда останется непостижимой загадкой, к которой мы хотим прикоснуться, хотя бы настолько, насколько можем.
